Easter

I love Easter. Every year it keeps getting better. Most holidays do. I'd like to say that this year's Good Friday Service and Easter services were fantastic. Its funny how much we dont really think about Easter until the hour long service or something like that, and Good Friday is even more pushed aside. Its too bad really, because its such a big deal. Andy's message today struck me because he mentioned that the disciples and first believers did not follow Christ because of his teachings. Today in pop-culture Christianity everyone wants to talk about Christ's teachings because of how revolutionary they were. And yes, they were quite revolutionary. And yes, they are extremely important for a Christian to know how God expects them to live life. But despite hearing Jesus teach for 3 years, despite living life with him and listening to every word he said, when he died, they all abandoned him and did not think that he was really who he said he was. They did not expect the Resurrection. And just the same, all through Acts its not the teachings of Jesus that are being preached to the huge crowds, and its not his teachings that get them in trouble, and its not his teachings that end up getting most of the apostles killed, its the witness of the Resurrection. How odd that 2000 years ago men were dying for their belief in the Resurrection and today we hardly notice it.

I also started thinking about the people that go to church just on Christmas and Easter and I thought that was so funny. I mean, not that its bad or anything, but that people that dont really consider themselves church-going Christians would choose those two holidays to go to church. What i mean by this is, there are some aspects of Christianity that are easier to come to grips with, such as a loving God or a community of people loving each other, or worshipping God. This is what goes on every normal sunday. And then there are parts of Christianity that are just downright outrageous. The two most prominent being the virgin birth and of course the resurrection. Its just so ironic to me that people show up for the holidays celebrating these two outrageous events, but dont come for the easier to come to grips with stuff. I was just trying to think of what these people really thought when they heard about the Resurrection. I dunno, just something ironic to me, in the end its actually great that people do come for those holidays because both of them are so crucial to Christianity.

spring break was overall pretty low key and boring, and i liked it that way. I'm 21 now. So who knows what kind of shenanigans i'll be getting into. Peace.
